Have you ever calculated how much your household spends on laundry detergent a year? Well if not, the number will knock your socks off… And it’s not like you can save money and wash your clothes less often, eww. Enter, homemade laundry detergent for $25 that lasts a year!
I made this a few years ago and never got around to making another batch when we ran out. I instead started spending $100+ on detergent per year again… WHAT was I thinking!? Regardless, the time has come to make more. There are so many variations of this detergent online but this is my preferred recipe.
Ingredients:
1 box – Borax
1 box – Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1 carton – Oxi Clean Free
2 – Fels Naptha or Zote Laundry Bars (grated)
1 container – Downy Unstoppables
Directions:
Mix all of the ingredients together one by one. Mixing as you go will make it much easier. Your hands are your greatest mixing tool! I save the cap from the downy unstoppables as my cup and use 1/2 cup full for normal loads and 1 cup full for diaper emergencies and stains. Depending on the stain you may need to pretreat because even though it does contain Oxi Clean, I have found that it doesn’t always pull them up as well as your high end, stain fighting, name brand detergent. In all I love saving the money, it makes for an adorable laundry room decoration when store
d in a glass jar, and it works well for our family.Let me know if you try this or any other variation of homemade laundry detergent. Also, do you have a favorite homemade cleaning product that you can’t live without? Let me know in the comments!
Love Always, K
